Petticoat Tales

Petticoat Tales
This is the first doll from my new 'Petticoat Tales' range. I took my inspiration from antique dolls, along with characters from my own family tree and translated them into a simple cloth doll design.

And here's some I prepared earlier...

Just a few of the completed dolls with new bodies and clothes. I'm going to invest in some silks and satins and other luxury fabrics for the next ones, though, as I want to make more fancy styled costumes and a maybe even a few hats!!

More china heads...

These are all reproduction heads of various styles and quality. Some of them need a really good clean (another job waiting for me) before they are made into dolls. The large three at the back of the top shelf are all going to be peddlar dolls when I eventually get around to them...after I have completed the others...and built the two dollhouse cottages...that I have hidden under the bed (really not sure how I'm going to explain their appearance to hubby!!!).

The China Heads are taking over!!

My collection of china heads is now taking over and I really have to knuckle down to making bodies and costumes for them. This group is mostly antique with a few really lovely reproductions.

More than I can manage...

So now I have (again) more dolls than I have space for as I brought most of them back from the fair!! Perhaps if I could just stop making so many...

I'm planning to offload a few on ebay before I disappear completely under a sea of cotton frocks and petticoats!!

A word of warning...or how not to needle felt!!

Don't try needle felting doll hair onto doll head on top of your lap....as I discovered, it's easy to miss and stab yourself in the thigh which bleeds profusely and is extremely painful (just lucky I didn't have any doll hair on the needle....).

My Favourite Primitive.

This has to be my favourite primitive so far...I named her 'Mercy Layborn' after one of my 18th century ancestors. She also went to the fair with me, but I was so relieved that after all the interest she received I still brought her home!! Perhaps she'll stay with me a while longer....

All the Fun of The Fair!

I was at a doll and teddy fair last week (my first in many years) and was really surprised at how much everything has changed. For a start the teddy stands out numbered the dolls by about 4 to 1 and the dolls on sale were mostly vintage and antique. Visitor numbers were low, but that's probably to be expected at the moment.
I took these two little cuties...and brought them home again!! Aah well, ebay here we come...
